Peter sent me a picture showing that the Honey Pot closed their shop last Friday.
They thank all their customers, and say they will soon be trading on the internet, and will be appearing at local craft fairs. Their shop brightened West St Helen Street for the last five years.
Thanks to Andy for pointing out that there is a planning application for a new Shop Sign on Bury Street next to Greggs, for Vodafone Abingdon.
Andy also says that his Grandma, Beryl Bragg passed away on Sunday 30th March. She was the wife of Norman Bragg who owned and ran the Braggs Cycle Shop. She was 99 years old and passed peacefully surrounded by family. The funeral service is on 10th April at 2.30pm at St. Helens Church. It was 100 years ago that Braggs moved into the premises on High Street, where Outdoor Traders now sell bikes.
By the way the Spring Abingdon Cycle Festival is on Sunday 13th April 2014.

A phone shop is good news for Abingdon – if Vodafone make a success of it all the other providers will follow, filling all the vacant premises
only thing is, only someone who likes wasting money would buy a mobile phone on the high street.
My late father spent hours at Braggs Cycles. (Bartlett family used to be amateur racing cyclists, raced nationally. Dad used to be unofficial ‘pit crew’.

Sainsbury’s have pulled out of the second stage of the Precinct development. We have the high end of Waitrose. We could do with an Asda or a Lidel. I think that Tesco Is getting quite expensive for some items. They could do with more competition in the town.
I remember getting my school bike from Braggs ready for starting Larkmead.
On the supermarket front. BBC news last night had an interview with Asda saying they want to open more stores in the next 5 years, ideally in the south, in areas that aren’t currently close to others Asda’s. Abingdon sounds perfect.
I see that the Abingdon First website is speculating that the new supermarket chain that Scottish Widows/Aberdeen Asset Management are in discussions with to revamp the Charter area is Morrisons.
My Palm Beach, straight handle bar bike, bell included came from Braggs. Does anyone remember the Pink Witch?
I do recall the situation in which the inheritors of braggs shut the shop down, the staff were let go without redundancy and the building sold to a property developer.

Unfortunately rudi’s recollection is wrong but thanks for bringing it up.
I am glad that Sainsburys have pulled out as I would prefer something different as there are many Tesco’s and Sainsburys near by.
Also a new shop opening up in the precinct is great news whatever they happen to be selling, it’s about time we had a mobile phone shop again. Lets hope it’s the start of many new shops.

Not surprised about the Honey Pot. Had flowers three times from them, and been disappointed each time, the stock always seemed rather old. I get them from the supermarket or from Fab Flowers on Bridge street for that special occasion.
Sorry to see the above comment. My experiences, having made several orders at this shop, have been completely different. I have always been pleased with the flowers and with the friendly and helpful service.
it would be good for Asda to come to Abingdon, I think Tesco has got too big for its boots. Give the people of the town more scope.
