Hallam Refused Planning Permission for 160 houses
January 24, 2013

The Vale of White Horse has refused planning permission for 160 dwellings on a field South of Abingdon.
Grounds for refusal included:
1. It is outside the provisions of the approved local plan.
2. It would generate additional traffic in an area already at capacity.
3. It would lead to loss of the rural aspect of the area.
4. It would generate more sewage in an area already at capacity.
5. The developers have not even entered into discussions about social housing and help towards highway measures etc. .
Around 200 people have written in response to the planning application, the vast majority are against.
The developers, Hallam Land Management Ltd, may still appeal.

never mind that field, what about all those ugly boxy houses next to it – knock them down too and return the area to nature.

This is good news but the real battle will be if they appeal.

Probably only the start of the fight, but it is a start.

The grounds for the dismissal of the application are good; but a determined developer will probably regard this as an initial skirmish. Hallam is not scared of a fight; those of us who are opposed must not be either.

Hallam have won previous appeals so are well prepared to go further. I just hope that the opposing case is strong. There are 4 Sovereign Vale houses opposite me all occupied by immigrants. Do Sovereign Vale receive payments to house immigrants from outside the area and are immigrants given priority over local people for social housing. The Housing Minister said that we have to build houses for the influx of immigrants, approximately 5 towns the size of Birmingham.

I’m more concerned about the river of blood running around the edge of the field.

Hallam will almost certainly take this to the Secretary of State on appeal but at least the first hurdle has been cleared and as others have said, the reasons for refusal appear to be pretty robust.

rudi,
You must be looking at the wrong field. The only houses next to the field we are talking about are beautiful homes.
