Goodbye to: Thai Orchid Restaurant and Supermarket, The Florist and Bistro in Bath Street, The Snack Kiosk, the Toy Shop nearby, and Lemon Plaice in the shopping centre. YMCA also moved out but their building was knocked down so did not count – nor did the Calendar Shop.

Welcome to Buns in the Basement, Galaxy Techno, The New Nags Head, OX14 Deli, Qutis, and YbuYnu..

The man running Abindon Bowls retired, and so Outdoor Traders moved back in there creating a second outlet. A-Plan also moved to a larger premises, and are looking to Let their previous premises.

So really not such a bad year for Abingdon given the disruption caused by the redevelopment of the Abbey Shopping Centre. Let me know if I forgot anything important.

Glad to hear it, things are certainly looking up for the town. With the new face lift of the town hall and precinct. The reopening of the Nags head on the bridge and the Old Goal complex nearing completion, I think the town has a lot to be positive about.

All seems to have gone quiet from the builders on the proposed restaurants and riverside development etc planned for the Old Goal – has anyone any information?

I can tell you from a builders point of view the precinct standard of work is awful . The walls are out of plumb also the brickwork is stained and not pointed properly I would not be able to get away with this standard of work on a customers house doing an extension costing 15k so why is the vale letting the builders getting away with it for 4million

Walked through for the 1st time, also noticed the botched work…It seems to be a lot of plaster and boards, some of the bricks are simply the brick facings mounted on a board.

I suspect how much will start falling away from the boards?,
given the speed it was ‘plastered on, and weather conditions at the time…..

    Looks OK at a distance…….

I wonder who will move in, if anyone??

Though it is nice to see the precint looking nearly finished, I did notice the awful paving work that has been done. Many miscut slabs too small with tarmac and concrete acting as a space filler. Looks totally hotchpotch in places…
