Thursday Night Pub Quiz

Pub Quiz
First the picture quiz. Put the correct names under the correct pub signs.

Second. Which Abingdon pub has a pub quiz on Thursday and has Morlands engraved in the stonework.

I saw the Old Anchor Inn filling up before 9 PM this evening for their quiz. The new landlord, Jamie, took over the pub a few weeks ago, and was setting the questions on his laptop.

Lastly, which pub has a Morland & Co Limited edition window?

Most of these pub signs, being relics of the good old days of Morlands and not the dull uniformity of GK are proper works of art.

    (1) Brewery Tap
    (2) Broad Face
    (3) Crown & Thistle
    (4) Kings Head and Bell : an interesting design concept, which doesn’t quite work, but pleased to see that particular king of England on a pub sign.
    (5) The Old Anchor
    (6) The Punchbowel

The bottom window looks to me like it is the Punchbowl, it is very familiar as it is right by The Day Rank and @throwingbuns, but the Brewery Tap – being the old brewwery tap – has some more artistic versions of the same type of glass, much to be admired when you are stuck in the traffic on Ock Street during the day, waiting for the lights to change on the poorly phased traffic light system in #Abingdon town centre.

Have been mulling a pub quiz for a while now but can’t find team mates. My knowledge is far from vast. Any teams out there just up for a laugh?

We usedto have the winkle club at the Broad Face….which organized a raft race which was a lot of fun, nor quite a quiz night but this article brought back some good memories! The only quiz question I answered correctly was “who is buying the next round?”

Hi my sister lives near the Brewery Tap and we think the window is from that pub. Good luck to Jamie at the Anchor.

There is a really good pub quiz at the Kings Head and Bell on a Thursday as well, might have to give the Anchor a go to compare

The pub quiz at the Brewery Tap is quite good on a Tuesday, but it depends who the quizmaster is that evening as the quality is variable. It is a pretty traditional 40 question quiz – the only real originality is when Adam is quizmaster because he does a “trail” where each answer leads in to the next question. Sometimes the quiz there goes on quite late.

The new quiz at the Kings Head and Bell on a Thursday is well worth a look. Each round is stand-alone, with beer prizes, and at the end there is a game of “higher and Lower” and pontoon to decide who gets a chance for the jackpot. odds are against a big cash win, but it is my favourite for sheer fun.
