For those not invited to St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, who would still like to celebrate The Royal Wedding, as part of a community event, there will be a screening of the wedding at Preston Road Community Centre, followed by a party.

The Charity Shops in Abingdon also have window displays in honour of the royal wedding. Helen & Douglas House have white dresses and union flags.

Oxfam has a wedding dress and bunting.

    i remember as an 8 year old attending a proper street party for the diana wedding. the whole street was closed off, benches down the middle of the road, street cordoned off, everyone living in the street partying. dont see anything like that happening now.

    You’ve got a short memory Rudi, there was loads of exactly that sort of thing in Abingdon (despite the rain) for the Queens golden anniversary, which was only about 5 years ago

    On a wider note, Saturday 24 June is the “Great Get-together” Day – started last year in memory of Jo Cox. In Abingdon there is a big tea-party with musicians, children’s activities etc or people can organise their own “Connect4Jo event – street parties, walks etc – more details on More in Common Facebook page.
