Just booked some seats at the science show. Only 7pm tickets available, the other two shows are already sold out.

There are still some tickets available for the shows on thursday (dame Jecelyn Bell-Burnell – discoverer of pulsars, professor Frank Close – science communicator and Robin Ince – comedian) and friday (professor Jim Al-Khalili – quantum biology), and as userless say for the 7pm showing on the saturday of visualise.

We’re really lucky to have attracted some very interesting and engaging speakers so It should be a very interesting few days.

If you cant get tickets there is going to be loads of stuff going on in the market place on saturday which is free and open to all. There is also a practical session exploring careers in science and technology on the friday evening in the guildhall which will be really interesting. There will be 17 major employers there with hands on displays and jobs available. I’m told the army will be bringing their robotic UED defuser which is the sort of equipment military engineers need to maintain in the field. We have a proud tradition of hiring fairs in Abingdon and we hope this will become the 21st Century incarnation of this tradition.

I may have misunderstood a conversation I had last week but I was told the Loose Cannon Atom ale was named after Abingdon’s Korfball team ‘The Atoms’. Could someone clarify the situation. Personally I think it’s appropriate for both!

The beer is brewed to celebrate Abingdon’s position as a centre for science. Although i’m sure loose cannon are also proud of the Atoms prowess on the korfball court.

The Abingdon Science week programme is very poorly presented. Nowhere can I find a simple chronlogical list of what is on, where, when and whether it is necessary to book, and if so where. The various web sites are full of colourful graphics which add nothing to the transfer of information. Example:A printout of ATOM gives an colourful A4 sheet which folds down into A6 pages displaying 1 mm high type near the limit of readability. Half the A7 space devoted to “Is There A Right Diet For You” is occupied by a picture of a poorly shaved man whose name may or not be, Rab – Why?
