Fish and Chips

The original British Takeaway still has two or three outlets in Abingdon.
Fish and Chips
For the moment there is no Fish and Chips takeaway in Abingdon Town Centre. New owners took over Smarts Fish & Chips and they seemed to be doing OK. So I am not sure what is now happening behind the screen.

Smarts on Peachcroft are still there open as usual.

As are Salami’s on Ock Street.

Abingdon Baptist Church Facade Repainted

Classical
For the last few weeks there has been scaffolding up in the front of Abingdon Baptist Church.
Classical
The blue and white front, of this Grade II listed building, has been repainted with a classical stone colour. A glass main door will be added.

The church (as in the members and not the building) are still fund raising for further improvements to the building.

Swan Uppers under “a month’s worth of rain in one day”

Swan Uppers
The Swan Uppers arrived at Abingdon Bridge on Friday July 24th after a five day swan census beginning at Sunbury on Monday.
Swan Uppers
Friday was predicted as having “a month’s worth of rain in one day”.
Swan Uppers
There were half a dozen people waiting on Abingdon Bridge when the skiffs arrived at around 4:40pm. I don’t know if they caught the Abingdon swans. There was not the usual toast to the Queen under Abingdon Bridge. They hurried to get indoors for a drink at the Nags Head.

World Record Loom Band to reach the Moon

Loom Bands to the Moon
The new world record is on The Guinness World Records.

It can also be read about it on The BBC , Abingdon Herald, BT.com

Skye Hall took part in the children’s craze of weaving small colourful bands into bracelets, but took it to another level while undergoing treatment for cancer. He had the dream to make a loom band long enough to stretch to the moon. His courage and dream has seen his family and friends this week taking the world record.

Today there was a fun day at the Abingdon Business Park, and the presentation of the certificate by The Mayor, Helen Pighills, who has made Blue Skye Thinking one of her charities.

They are continuing to fund raise so other young lives can be saved.
