Studio Closing

Studio Closing
Paul Viney’s studio in West St Helen Street is closing at the end of the month. It has been there since it took over from the barbers that used to be there, called In Trim, about twelve years ago.
Studio Closing
As well as weddings, and studio portraits, Paul is often to be seen at town events taking pictures so must have quite a collection of Abingdon life.

The odd side of Stert Street

Scaffold Away
The scaffolding came down on Monday revealing the new look to the flats above 13-17 Stert Street.
Scaffold Away
I thought it a crime that one of Abingdon’s best window displays was half hidden behind the scaffold for so long. But now their Easter display can be seen.
Scaffold Away
A few doors up, at number 27 Stert Street, there is another Easter display but you will have to wait two days to buy one of their filled pinatas. It is now a Saturday sweet shop.

Abingdon Community Hospital becomes a victim of its own success

Community Hospital Parking
Mr Tim Oates, from North Abingdon, brought a neighbour to Abingdon Community Hospital, but could not find a parking place and so parked at the trading estate, nearby. Other people have parked on the grass and possibly in spaces allotted to Marcham Road Health Centre – alongside.
Community Hospital Parking
There is a petition in the waiting room at Marcham Road Health Centre asking for the organisation running the hospital (namely Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust) to find a solution to the parking problems so that people going to the Health Centre can use their alloted parking places.

It is good to see the Community Hospital thriving even if it has become a victim of its own success.

On a cold morning in town

Piano on Wheels
Tim Valentine, the busking pianist, was playing his piano on a trolley in town this morning. The music warmed passers by on a cold morning.
Hearse
A funeral director walked in front of the hearse out of Conduit Road and along Ock Street, then moved to the side of the road and bowed his top hat with great respect towards the coffin inside.
Van
A red van had come from Banbury and was trying to find the way round the Abingdon road system. After asking a postman, he went round and round the one way system two or three times, then drove round and round East St Helen Street and West St Helen Street before finding the final destination: Lansbrough Lettings in West St Helen Street.
