Against Breast Cancer had a special day on the Market Place, and around town, turning everything pink including the Town Crier’s bell.

It was all to raise awareness and funds to fight Breast Cancer and this young lad did a sponsored  hour long pogo stick jump – his mum is involved in the charity.

Emily seen here with the Mayor is one of the organisers. They brought in celebrities such as Kerry Kat ona who had a good crowd, Bobby Davro, Steve Collins the boxer, a group called The Soldiers, an Elvis and Rod Steward tribute act, and a choir called the Didcot Divas..

Also Dwina Gibb, the widow of Robin Gibb was there as patron of the charity.

Tonight at 7:30 there will be a Firewalk on the market place – more of that anon.

This week sees the autumn exhibition by Abingdon Artists at St Nicolas Church on the Market Place. As usual there is a £1 raffle with the chance to win a picture. The prize picture is called Summer Glow by Muriel Halliday. Visitors can also take part in a competition to choose the favorite picture by entering their choice into a ballot.

When pneumatic drills are silent

Gas Pipes Need Replacing
East St Helen Street is closed so that the main gas pipes can be replaced. Notices say it will be closed for two weeks.

Most of the time, apart from when diggers are moving about, there is room enough to drive a car down there so I am not sure why the road needed to be closed. But it does mean, when pneumatic drills are silent, that you can take a quiet stroll down East St Helen Street in the middle of the road.
