Street Fair

Every year we get a similar letter:

Dear Sir/Madam

ABINGDON MICHAELMAS STREET FAIR 2007.

You may be aware that this year's Michaelmas Street Fair will run on 8 and 9 October....

The congestion...may increase slightly the time it takes to respond to your property in the event of a fire... extra vigilent...

...We are aware that the Fair does cause inconvenience to residents. We thankyou in anticipation of you co-operation.

The rides have started arriving. here is one pictured near the Drayton Road Bridge, with the caravans and trailers of fairground people behind.

I used to work on Ock Street and my wife still does. We have now got to the stage of taking the two days of the fair as holiday to avoid the hassle. I know it is enshrined in law that this fair must take place, but I am sure it is not what was originally envisioned by the local employers looking for new apprentices.
I wonder how the new inhabitants of The Brewery feel about it?

I think they should ban the fair, because it's gonna make me late for my delivery to Abingdon School.
Who needs fairs in this day and age...it should be scrapped to make way for more cars!.

i live in Ock Street and have done for 3 years.
Iv taken the decision to move out.
Iv become so frustrated with the Council.
We have continual traffic backed up Ock street and at a standstill all day long then the road is closed so the council can rake-in thousands of pounds in revenue from a fair.
i agree its traditional but a multi-million pound funfair playing loud music 10m from my door is just wrong.
When someone profits from inconvieniencing its rate payers there is something wrong.

The fair should be moved to the fields outside of the town.
It is no longer the "hiring" fair that it started as, and has adapted itself into the money making inconvenience it is now.
Having the fair in the outlying fields would be a "fair" compromise.

Hi im Jack Barlow and i go to Larkmead School and i think the fair is the best but however the only problem is the emergency services cant make there way down ock street and all the sreets in abingdon because they are allways blocked up, ithink the fair should be moved to the fields off millroad!

Guys, you need to chill, TWO DAYS it's there for, not a year. Deal with it, there are more important things in the world that need sorting out than the abingdon fair
